
● Pre-blepharoplasty instructions:
○ Patients will be asked to stop taking blood-thinning medications like warfarin, aspirin etc and other medications which might lead to bleeding complications. He/she can take the medications allowed by the operating surgeon.
○ Patients must stop smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery for normal and quick healing.
○ Arranging someone to drive the patient from the clinic after surgery and to stay with the patient at home.
● Post-blepharoplasty instructions:
○ Use ice packs on your eyes for 10 minutes every hour on the night of surgery. The patient is asked to use ice packs 4-5 times a day for the next couple of days. This helps in reducing the swelling.
○ Clean the eyelids and eyes gently as per the instruction given by the surgeon.
○ Take prescribed medications, eye drops and ointments.
○ Avoid strenuous activities like aerobics and jogging, for a week.
○ Avoid smoking for normal healing
○ Avoid rubbing or scratching eyes
○ Avoid using contact lenses for two weeks after surgery.
○ Wear dark sunglasses to protect eyes from sunlight
○ Sleep with head raised higher than chest for a week
○ Stop taking medications that can lead to the complication of bleeding or delayed healing
○ Visit the surgeon for the removal of stitches as per schedule
● Inform the surgeon immediately if you experience severe eye pain, abnormal swelling, bleeding, vision problems, fever and excessive pus discharge from the surgical wound.
